Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL. won The Asean Business Award in Innovation category for large company

The prestigious regional ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) 2013 took place in Brunei’s International Convention Center on 20 August 2013. The event was attended by many representing the region as part of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (BIS) which took place against a backdrop of efforts between governments and private sectors. ASEAN BIS brings together prominent global and regional governments and business leaders to discuss issues of strategic importance to ASEAN and East Asia.

Since the award was launched in 2007, the ABA has recognized 60 companies throughout the region that have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the ASEAN economy. These companies are considered the ‘Most Admired ASEAN Enterprises’ that have excelled in categories of growth, employment, innovation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

This year, competing against almost 70 applications that were received from all 10 member states, 18 companies did their respective nations proud. Delta Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited has won the award in the innovation category for large company. Representing the company to receive the award was its President, Mr Henry Shieh. The awards were presented by His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

30 finalists were shortlisted and then further grouped into large-size companies and SMEs. Following interviews, those that were selected were then brought to the attention of an independent judging panel comprising top business leaders, economists and academics from the region. With the objective of showcasing home-grown ASEAN companies that have become excellent models of other aspiring companies, the ABA was also aimed at providing spotlight for upcoming ASEAN SMEs to help them grow into potential global players.

Due to Delta Thailand being a second time winner for the said award, the company was invited as a panelist on one of the summit’s sessions titled “Leveraging Education, Technology and Innovation- Key Drivers of Future Prosperity”. Mr KK Chong, Senior Director, represented Delta Thailand on the panel. His speech and comments were also featured on The Brunei Times under the headline of ASEAN Community to Spur Innovation in the issue on August 22, 2013.
