Maximizing Demand Response Returns with BESS Through Smarter Design

Delta BESS in Singapore

As Singapore continues advancing its energy transition goals, Demand Response (DR) programmes are creating new opportunities for businesses to support grid stability while generating additional revenue streams. At the same time, falling battery costs and improved system performance are accelerating the adoption of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for ancillary services and flexible energy management.

This case study by Delta Electronics explores how BESS design can maximise both technical performance and commercial returns within Singapore’s DR market. Highlighting a pilot deployment at an office building, the project involved a 200 kW/315 kWh BESS integrated with an aggregator platform to support DR participation. The deployment demonstrates how skid-based system architecture and smarter ESS integration can help improve installation efficiency, operational flexibility and long-term project economics.

Beyond the pilot deployment, the case study also explores the growing shift towards multi-use energy storage applications. As BESS assets are increasingly expected to support Demand Response, backup power and energy arbitrage, the paper examines how flexible operating strategies can help asset owners maximise utilisation, capture additional value streams and improve overall return on investment.

Through these insights, the case study provides a practical look at how energy storage solutions can support more resilient, flexible and commercially sustainable energy infrastructure in Singapore and similar markets.
