Discovering a Unique Career at the Delta Intern Program

Bangkok, Thailand, April 22, 2020- Delta Electronics Thailand is a major manufacturer that brings together thousands of talented people to work in a diverse range of roles and careers in production areas, warehouses, offices, facilities and labs. Today we meet with three young office administration interns Linlada Pratumma, Manita Paoklang and Manivan Mityong (left to right in above picture) who share what it’s like to work as interns in Delta’s Human Resources (HR) Department.

Where are you studying, and what’s your major?

Linlada, Manivan: We’re both students in our last year at Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU) in Samutprakarn province. Linlada studies Chinese language and culture while Manivan majors in English.

Manita: I’m in my third year at Samutprakarn Technical College. I’m majoring in business computer science.

How long is your internship?

Linlada, Manivan: Our internship at Delta Thailand lasts four months. We began in January this year and will finish in May.

Manita: My internship is only for three months. I started my internship in March and will also finish in May.

How did you learn about the Delta Intern Program and why did you join?

Linlada: Since I was young, my mother told me about Delta and I found out it’s one of the largest electronics companies in the country. After hearing so much about the company, I wanted to come try working here myself.

Manita: I found out about Delta at a career day event at my school organized by the Samutprakarn provincial government. I was looking for an internship to match my skills and interests and after looking at a few local companies, a counselor recommended Delta to me.

Manivan: Delta is a major company in this area (Bangkok and Samutprakarn) and our university partners with Delta Thailand, so we have opportunities to intern here. I also have a senior in school who told me she enjoyed her internship here, so I wanted to join.

Can you tell us about what you do each day at Delta Thailand?

Linlada: I help make HR department administration documents for our employees, both here in Bangpoo Industrial Estate and in Wellgrow Industrial Estate in Chachoengsao Province. I also work in the mailroom to handle mail and parcels for employees, Purchasing and Finance departments. Sometimes I record data for our scrap documentation process and keep the inventory for employee uniforms and shoes.

Manita: I do office administration for the HR department. I work with my supervisor and team to make legal documents related to contracts between Delta and our vendors. It always amazes me how many companies and partners we work with all the time.

Manivan: I help translate internal communications between the HR department and all employees from English to Thai and vice versa. Delta is an international company with employees from many countries so we use English and Thai for company communications. I also help in the Delta Energy Education Program (DEEP), a company CSR activity to teach local primary school students about saving energy and the earth’s resources.

What were your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?

Manita: When I arrived, I wasn’t confident to communicate in English at all. But Delta is an international company, so I have to use English. After studying more business English I can now understand better and want to keep learning.
Manivan: At first it was difficult for me to understand everyone’s English conversations. I’ve never been in a place like Delta with so many nationalities and unique accents. But after speaking English every day with everyone, I can now communicate better.
Linlada: At HR we get many employee inquiries every day. It was hard to answer so many questions, especially when my supervisor wasn’t there. But after taking time to learn about the company and what HR does for employees, I feel I can help a lot more people.

How did you improve yourself during your time at Delta?

Manivan: I think I’ve become more responsible. My time management and planning is better than when I was just studying at school. Every day, I feel like I get a lot more done, which is satisfying. I’ve had a great time working with my supervisor and I made a lot of friends among the kind people at Delta.
Linlada: This was a good opportunity for me to learn all about working in a big office. I never imagined there are so many processes and details to running a large company. I’m lucky to have great seniors who helped teach me everything on the job and also became my good friends.
Manita: Right now I can manage my time better and I’ve become more motivated to find what I want in life. I’ve also made new friendships here.

Where is your favorite place at Delta Thailand’s head office and why?
Linlada: I like the Delta lobby and the market. It’s always nice to get a break from the office and rest in the company’s green spaces. We also meet up there with friends from other departments to hangout or just relax together.
Manita: For me, the company’s green lobby is the best place here. It’s so peaceful and the combination of plants and flowing water is so beautiful. I also enjoy the fresh air in the gardens outside the building.
Manivan: My favorite place in the company is the morning market next to the canteen. I love browsing through the stalls to find tasty snacks that I can share with my friends.

What do you want to do after your graduation and why?

Linlada: I’d like to find a good job with a nice salary. I feel I can find this at Delta. I’d be happy to continue working in the HR department, especially in work involving Chinese language and with Taiwanese supervisors.
Manita: I’d also like to get a good job and gain more experience. Right now I still have a couple years before graduating so I haven’t decided exactly what I want to do. So I’d like to try working in different fields before deciding my career path.
Manivan: I want to get a good job and I think Delta is a good company so if there’s a good opportunity I’ll stay here. In my experience, Delta offers good employee support like company buses, bonuses and holidays. I enjoy Marketing, so if I can do that it would be awesome!
