Bangkok, Thailand, November 24, 2020– Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL. received the ASEAN Energy Awards 2020, in the Large Industry-Energy Management for Industry Category, from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) for its successful energy reduction project at the Delta Plant 6 in Wellgrow Industrial Estate.
Johnny Tam, Country Manager for Delta in Indonesia, represented the company at an ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) virtual awards ceremony and received the award on Delta’s behalf.
Founded in 2002, Delta Plant 6 is in Chachoengsao Province, part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Zone. Delta Plant 6 is an R&D and production center for electronic components and thermal management products including DC Fan, EMI Filter and solenoids shipped to Delta’s leading global customers.
In addition, Delta Plant 6 is a green factory with 2 MW solar energy capacity installed on the roof for use in operations. From 2017 to 2019, the Delta Energy Management Team conducted 31 energy-saving projects resulting in 6,962 MWh of energy savings worth USD 827 Million. The plant’s Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) exceeded the original plan targets to reach a 35% energy consumption reduction before 2020.
During the project, the Delta Energy Management Team found the top source of energy consumption, at 25% of total consumption, was injection molding machines at the electronic fan production lines. They improved the energy efficiency of older machines by installing insulator hopper, hot air return, insulator barrel and servo motor injection machine systems.
The second-largest source of energy consumption, at 24% of total consumption, was the plant’s air conditioning systems under strain from the heat of injection molding machines. This caused temperature instability with some working areas exceeding 30°C. The Delta Energy Management Team improved efficiency by adjusting the level of the duct air supply and changing the grille from square diffuser type to Jet diffuser with high pressure.
In addition, production management implemented the Delta Thailand Lean Manufacturing (DTLM) strategy to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing process, including Delta Smart Manufacturing (DSM) to implement automation on the production lines and Kaizen management for continuous improvement in operational efficiency.
Started in 2014, the ASEAN Energy Awards represents a benchmark of excellence and offers recognition for businesses that play a critical role in developing the energy sector and help drive the region towards a more sustainable future. Previously, Delta Thailand received 1st Runner Up for the ASEAN Energy Award 2019 in the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices category and the Green Building sub-category for its green factory headquarters.
As a global corporate citizen and regional green solutions provider, Delta leverages its own industrial automation, HVAC and energy management solutions to promote energy-efficient and sustainable business in Thailand and ASEAN.
