MEA-Delta Partnership Offers Ultimate Convenience for Thailand’s EV Drivers with the MEA EV Mobile App

Bangkok, Thailand, January 21, 2020 – Mr. Werawat Buatong, Deputy Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), and Mr. Hsieh Shen-yen, President of Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL., signed a milestone agreement to include Delta’s electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions across Thailand in the MEA EV Mobile App and offer ultimate convenience to EV users. The agreement signing took place at Wattanawipat Building, MEA Head Office in Klong Toei.   

The MEA Deputy Governor said, “The MEA is a leading EV proponent in Thailand. Our vision is to offer energy that suits the urban lifestyle and prepare for the upcoming future of EVs replacing fossil fuel vehicles. Signing this agreement with Delta Electronics Thailand will bring a new level of convenience and accessibility to EV charging stations in Thailand. The MEA collaborates with Delta to prepare EV charging infrastructure readiness for consumers by connecting Delta's EV charger data with MEA's EV charging network, developing the MEA EV Mobile App and educating the public. Education topics include EV charging at home or the workplace, choosing the right EV charger type and safe installation of charging equipment. We also offer advice on the electric power system to assure Delta's customers of the safety standards.”

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Hsieh Shen-yen, President of Delta Electronics Thailand, said “We’re thrilled to join the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) today in offering Thais a connected green lifestyle through innovation. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) gives MEA EV Mobile App users access to Delta’s extensive network of EV charging stations in Thailand. Delta installed DC fast chargers and AC chargers in many public locations across the country including auto dealerships, industrial parks, institutional offices and educational centers. Users can use the MEA EV Mobile App to find and book EV charging in real time and control charging via remote system.

In addition, MEA EV Mobile App users can pay for their charging fees, see their charging history, calculate their energy saving rate and enjoy many other useful functions that will become available soon. MEA and Delta will cooperate to link Delta’s public EV chargers and management solutions, installed to the MEA server standard or Open Charge Point Protocol standard (OCPP), to the MEA EV Mobile App for users’ convenience.

This timely collaboration between MEA and Delta aims to encourage Thai drivers to switch to greener transport which supports the Thai government’s promotion of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) adoption. The partnership also aims to help support the country’s EV manufacturing and R&D sectors. The Thai government’s energy blueprint targets to have 1.2 million EVs (PHEV and BEV) on the road by 2036.
