Delta Future Industry Summit Inspires Ideas on Smart City Innovation for Thailand

BANGKOK, 18 September 2018 – Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL. introduced its bold vision for Thailand’s changing urban landscape at the first Delta Future Industry Summit on September 18, at Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel. The 2018 Delta Future Industry Summit was a platform for decision-makers in business, government, academics and the media to interface on shared interests in technology and industry trends affecting the lives of Thais under the theme- Innovations for Smart Cities.

Delta president Mr. Hsieh Shen-yen welcomed attendees and presented highlights of the summit and the company’s priorities in developing innovative solutions including renewable energy, factory automation, electric vehicle charging and green buildings.

“We want our future generations to enjoy the benefits of technology by contributing to technologies that make our cities smarter, more sustainable and energy-efficient,” Mr. Hsieh said. “We can already see the decline of old technologies such as gasoline cars and the gradual shift to smarter, cleaner technologies to power our lives and manage our cities. But the shift to the future will only gain real momentum when the public and private sectors work together and get serious about action for climate change and managing urbanization,” he said.

The Thai government is eager to jumpstart economic development to keep pace with rapid urbanization and the impact of global mega-trends like Industry 4.0 and clean energy. Discussion and networking platforms like Delta Future Industry Summit is a catalyst for like-minded organizations to generate effective solutions together that can improve urban livability and industrial sustainability. Speakers at the summit stressed that smart cities will be the cornerstone of the country’s future urban landscape with significant investment from both government and industry. Each keynote speaker and panelist took a holistic approach, charting the broad trend towards integration of smart technology across multiple industries that form the core of smart cities.

The panel discussion on the future of electric vehicles (EV) in Thailand was a lively discussion involving representatives from Delta, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT). Mr. Jumpote Himacharoen, MEA Director of Research and Development, shared his insights on the grid infrastructure needed for electrified transportation in metropolitan Bangkok. Mr. Kittisak Ngoenngokngam, Delta’s SEA Business Director at Thailand, highlighted Delta’s early involvement in EV charging solutions and the company’s collaboration with the government and businesses to extend the reach of EV charging technology across Thailand.

During the panel discussion on the future of Thai cities, panelists from Delta, Bangkok Bank and Thammasat University made bold forecasts for the next decade of smart city development. Dr. Piyapan Tayanithi, Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President, shared how the digital economy would make smart services more convenient and the critical role big data plays in customer satisfaction. Dr. Nopbhorn Leeprechanon, Head of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering in Thammasat University, shared key lessons learned throughout his extensive experience and expertise in constructing smart city. Mr. Sakda Sae-Ung, Delta MCIS Senior Manager, predicted the exponential growth of data centers in the region to power the coming digital economy.
